I was impressed with Roberta Millstein’s recent article on 10 Reasons Not to Vote for Eric Jones and also Sue Greenwald’s incisive and revealing analysis of Eric Jones’ Chilling Foreign Policy Position. I encourage you to read both articles if you have not already
Hopefully, readers are convinced not to vote for Jones, but why vote for Mike Thompson? Below are numerous reasons why you should vote for Mike Thompson.
Thompson has experience. In Congress, experience counts. Whether you like it or not, that’s the “real world” of congressional seniority. Mike Thompson’s years of experience have allowed him to climb the ladder so that, when Democrats take control, he is in line to become of the Chair of the Health Subcommittee on the Ways and Means Committee, where, in his own words, he’ll “help lead Democrats’ efforts to ensure every American has access to health care.”
That position plays a critical role in what legislation moves forward for further votes. Why would you want to throw that away for a back-bencher rookie who has no real track record of ever taking public stands (via voting) on anything? We just get empty promises from Eric Jones.
Thompson is effective. Despite Jones’ incessant ads claiming that Mike Thompson is “ineffective,” just look at Thompson’s list of endorsers: https://www.mikethompsonforcongress.com/endorsements
Pay close attention to the very lengthy list of local officials endorsing Thompson, from all corners of District 4. IF Thompson was so “ineffective”, WHY would they all be endorsing him? They are in a position to follow what is going on in Congress and know what Mike Thompson has delivered for our District. Carpetbagger Eric Jones hasn’t delivered anything — just empty promises he can’t fulfill. (Example: The term limits for Congress that Jones talks about would require an amendment to the U.S. Constitution. What chance does that have? And even in the unlikely event Congress passed the amendment, it must be ratified by enough states. We are still waiting for the Equal Rights Amendment to be ratified!)
Thompson’s list of supporters is as varied as it is long. Local law enforcement representatives endorse Mike Thompson — again from jurisdictions all across the 4th District. Check the list, including Oscar Ortiz, Napa County Sheriff/Coroner.
And the breadth of community organizations support is overwhelming: ranging from civil rights groups; agricultural groups; environmental groups; gun control groups;veterans groups; women’s groups, including Planned Parenthood; and young and old Democrats.
That breadth demonstrates someone who delivers for constituents across the spectrum. Moreover, at least a dozen of the local public officials (Mayors, Vice Mayors & Councilmembers) of District 4 communities have given their own money (ranging from $100 to $503) to Mike Thompson’s re-election campaign — “putting their money where their mouth is.” Why would they do that unless they believe Mike Thompson will deliver for their communities?
There are also numerous County Supervisors who have given their own money to support Mike Thompson, including Davis’ own Lucas Frerichs. He is in a position to know that Mike Thompson delivers for Davis residents.
There are other wide-ranging contributors to Mike Thompson, including an employee of the Napa County Legal Services and an attorney for the Land Trust of Napa County, just to mention a few.
By contrast, Eric Jones’ campaign is funded by more than $20 Million derived from Dragoneer Investment Group, a venture capital firm that provides “private equity” to startups and has multiple involvements with businesses in AI and interests in Data Centers. His campaign has no listed endorsements from our Congressional District.
Jones makes differing promises to different groups, and seems to have a position for everyone. That was one reason the Yolo County Republican Party has recommended voting for Mike Thompson, even while stating they usually don’t agree with Thompson. They don’t trust Eric Jones’ ever-changing positions. Jones’ Super PAC backer (New Leadership Now Super PAC) is primarily funded by Dragoneer-derived funds. Over the weekend, during the U. C. Davis Aggies’ football game telecast, New Leadership Now ran an ad “against” Mike Thompson FOUR times. Here is a link to an on-line post about the same ad — which has been running on streaming laptops in retail outlets for a few weeks. This ad (link below) shows us the mindset of Jones’ cronies!! https://x.com/rpyers/status/2111124407603408925
Davis is a Sanctuary City. Woodland is beset by ICE, running over people with their car. We can’t trust Eric Jones with our safety!
In contrast, Mike Thompson stood with the people of Woodland when one of its citizens was run over by ICE— he organized a press conference, invited local leaders to come and speak, including Antonio Moreida (the person who was run over), and has called for an independent investigation into the incident.
That is the kind of leadership our district needs. Please cast your vote for Mike Thompson!
