Local groups to demand justice at Woodland “ICE out” March and Rally on Oct 27

Woodland resident Antonio Moreida, who was hit by an ICE vehicle earlier this week, speaks at the Woodland City Council meeting Tuesday night.

(From press release) Local residents are invited to join the ICE Out Demand Justice rally and march on Oct. 27 at 4pm in Woodland. In response to the recent ICE surge in Woodland, including the hit-and-run crime committed by an ICE agent on Woodland resident Antonio Moreida, participants will march from the Yolo County district attorney’s office at 301 2nd Street, to Rep. Mike Thompson’s office and then to the Woodland Courthouse. For more information: https://yolo.chapters.dsausa.org/ICE-OUT/.

The event is being led by Yolo Democratic Socialists of America and a coalition of local groups including UC Davis Young Democratic Socialists of America, Indivisible Yolo, DeFlock Woodland, Davis Phoenix Coalition and Mutual Aid Davis.

“If, to you, Yolo County truly is for everyone, we call on you to join us in demanding justice for Antonio Moreida and to get ICE thuggery out of Yolo County for good,” said Dillan Horton, co-chair, Yolo Democratic Socialists of America.

The groups are calling for the Yolo County district attorney to prosecute the ICE agent involved for a hit-and-run, assault with a deadly weapon and assault with intent to cause great bodily injury. If the district attorney does not file charges within a reasonable time, the groups are calling on Attorney General Rob Bonta to take over the prosecution. They also want the Woodland police department to disclose all communications with ICE.
