We the People Say No Kings: Second Yolo “No Kings” March and Rally to Take Place Oct. 18

More than 4,000 Yolo County residents gathered in Woodland in June for the first NO KINGS march and rally. Indivisible Yolo is organizing the next NO KINGS event for Oct. 18 in Davis.

Countywide event will be held alongside 5 million people and 2500 protests nationwide

(From press release) Drawing on momentum from the first Yolo NO KINGS march and rally in June that gathered more than 4,000 participants, Indivisible Yolo and Davis Phoenix Coalition will host a second Yolo NO KINGS event Saturday, Oct. 18 from 1:30-3:30pm at Civic Center Park at 6th and B streets in Davis. The event, themed “We the People,” is part of a national mobilization expected to exceed 5 million nationwide as people gather to protest Trump administration policies and remind the president that America is a democracy.

The event will begin with a march from Civic Center Park through downtown Davis, looping back to the park for the rally at approximately 2:30pm where Yolo County speakers will address the crowd. Learn more and RSVP: https://www.mobilize.us/indivisibleyolo/event/840116/.

“This movement is only getting bigger and stronger,” said Steve Murphy, co-chair, Indivisible Yolo. “As the president escalates his authoritarian power grab, we the people are uniting to remind the world that America doesn’t do kings. The power belongs to the people – and here in Yolo County, that means our students, our workers, our university community, our immigrant community, our LGBTQ+ community and more. This march and rally will unite folks from Davis, Woodland, Esparto, Winters, West Sacramento and beyond to demand our rights, insist on economic opportunity and protect our communities.”

Partners include Sister District Yolo, Davis College Democrats, Democratic Socialists of America – Yolo, SEIU, UC Davis Faculty Association, Yolo County Democratic Party and more.

Indivisible Yolo is the local chapter of the nationwide grassroots movement Indivisible. Indivisible Yolo’s mission is to promote progressive policies by activating people to engage in their democracy at all levels of government. The group organizes and advocates for policy goals and to get out the vote to elect candidates who pursue those policies. These complementary efforts ensure democracy works for everyone and that those in power do, too. For more information, visit www.indivisibleyolo.org.

The mission of Davis Phoenix Coalition is to promote a world where all people are safe, respected and free from violence. While I support the concept, I really wish a better name could be used. The UK still has a king, and they strongly denounce (in some cases far stronger than the US does) the dictatorial, unchecked actions of the current US administration. The “no KINGS” label is somewhat of a slap in the face to the UK where none is intended. And there’s really no reason for it. I certainly don’t begrudge the UK for keeping their royal figureheads. Nobody thinks that Trump comes from royalty. He aspires to be a dictator, not a king.

    1. I see your point, but you are literally the first person I’ve seen raise this issue… and I read a lot of stuff, have a lot of UK friends, etc. I think they understand the subtlety and don’t see it as a slap in the face (for the most part).

Interesting. I’m not the first person to bring this up. I’ve heard it from several other public sources… and I don’t follow the public protest subject all that much. And while I’m confident that the UK citizens can generally make the distinction, I still don’t want to be one to send the easy-to-misinterpret message. Regardless of all that, it gives Trump more regal credit than he deserves. We want no dictators. No fascists. I’m not sure where this idea of “King” came from.

Trump is not a dictator, or a fascist, or a king. This all comes down to TDS. After the Charlie Kirk assassination maybe it’s time to tone down the over the top rhetoric.

    1. Trump has usurped Congress’s power of the purse. He has ignored federal judge’s rulings and been chastised by Chief Justice Roberts for his treatment of the courts. He has deployed the National Guard against citizens. He is seeking to control higher education. He is ordering the media around. And more.

In other words, he is taking control of every major aspect of our society, including the other two branches of government.

Those are the actions of a dictator or fascist.

All that sounds a lot like what the Democrats were doing in the Biden administration.

      2. Nope, none of that happened under the Biden administration. And even if it had, if you didn’t like it then, you shouldn’t like it now. I’ve called you out on this before — you always try to change the subject back to Biden. Biden isn’t president now. We have to deal with the authoritarian in power.

I could give you example after example of the authoritarian tactics used by Democrats prior to Trump taking office this year. But why bother, it appears your mind is already made up and nothing I say will change that.

My friends in the UK think these protests are ridiculous and they do not like Trump, however, they respect what he is accomplishing.

    1. Keith

Marc, do your friends in the UK feel they’re losing their country to illegal immigration and because of that is why they like Trump?

I see King Trump allowed all of his haters to protest. That was mighty noble of the King.
