There MAY not have been a May version of Al's Corner.  People got by.  They posted May stuff in April.  We all lived.

June's Al's Corner will feature ketchup and mustard on top.  Peace.  Over & Out.

“June’s Al’s Corner will feature ketchup and mustard on top. Peace. Over & Out.”
LOL, and to think that my comments are often moderated for being off topic, argumentative and not relevant on the Vanguard when comments with “ketchup and mustard on top” are considered okay.

  2. Keith

BTW, according to the Vanguard homeless immigrants has nothing to do with articles about homelessness, remember that.

  3. Walter Shwe

You have literally zero data to back up your false assertion that illegal immigration has any significant effect on the unhoused population Keith Olson. Alan Miller is another parakeet. What’s up doc? 🦜

  4. Walter Shwe

Is Alan brave enough to approve my prior comment?

  5. Alan C. Miller

I am a brave parakeet. Braaaaaaaawk!
Now that both KO & WS are both present and account for, we can have a real conversation about housing and immigration. Unlike on that other fuck-face blog that just eliminates the opinion it doesn’t want to hear.
    *Gentlemen, start your engines!
*Note: if either of you identify as another gender besides that which I ASSumed, please let me know and I will modify to accommodate. And if either of you don’t have engines, I will also modify to accommodate.

“Alan Miller is another parakeet. What’s up doc? 🦜”
Says Shwe, the guy who parakeets and agrees with just about everything the Vanguard has to say.

  7. Keith

“You have literally zero data to back up your false assertion that illegal immigration has any significant effect on the unhoused population Keith Olson.”
Hey Shwe, here’s some data for you:
“Outrage grows over vets evicted from New York hotels to house migrants”
    https://nypost.com/2023/05/13/outrage-grows-over-vets-evicted-from-hotels-to-house-migrants/
“There have been similar stories shared from several shelters across the city as well. Some nonprofit shelter operators said that a major cause of resentment is the city government, which is now moving people around from shelter to shelter to make room for migrants.”
“”I have no idea why we are being displaced for them. Why we are being moved and shuffled around?” asked a woman who lives at one of the shelters and did not wish to be identified.
She said she was suddenly forced to vacate the Queens shelter where she had been living for almost a year — and where she received special accommodations for a disability.”
    https://www.nbcnewyork.com/investigations/migrant-crisis/fights-break-out-at-nyc-shelters-as-tensions-among-homeless-rise-amid-migrant-influx/3878907/
Shwe, this is just for starters. There are several articles showing how immigration is having a bad effect on our country’s homeless.

  8. Keith

Here’s some more Shwe just to rub it in:
“According to economists at the University of Chicago, more than 500,000 Americans experience homelessness every day. But there are just over 300,000 beds for homeless Americans. That means just two out of three homeless people across the U.S. can find temporary housing; the remainder are literally unsheltered.”
And yet, despite this crisis, homeless Americans are being displaced to house illegal migrants. Tensions flared last fall in New York City when homeless Black Americans were removed from their shelter to be replaced by illegal aliens. “I have no idea why we are being displaced for them. Why we are being moved and shuffled around?” One woman asked.
We have a housing crisis in this country, yet millions are being spent to house people who aren’t American, while low income Americans go without. New York City has spent $600 million to house migrants, though its public housing residents live in squalor. “The city is going to put forth a ton of money for these people who aren’t even citizens, but they forgot about the people who live in public housing right here,” as one resident put it.”

    Biden falls again.
Another strictly conservative comment from a Republican in sheep’s clothing despite all of his claims to the contrary. This comment literally has nothing to do with Davis or California.

  10. Ron O

Keith: In reference to BOTH of those articles, this is probably a primary cause of tension between black Americans and immigrants – which is then subsequently determined to be “hate crimes”.
In that case, often impacting those who couldn’t just “walk across the border” in the first place. In other words, the ones forced to actually adhere to immigration laws as a result of geography.

  12. Alan C. Miller

    WS, a couple of questions:
    • What are you basing the apparently-intended-as-an-insult term “parakeet” on. I’m fine with the label if you can give some examples, but I have no idea what you are basing this on.
    • On what do you base your use of the term “conservative” as an insult?
    • On what do you base your claim that KO is a Republican ‘despite all claims to the contrary’ ?
    Keet

  13. Keith

“Another strictly conservative comment from a Republican in sheep’s clothing despite all of his claims to the contrary.”
Shwe you keep parroting that line on the Vanguard and now here on the Davisite. I’m actually a registered Independent but am not ashamed that I’m also conservative on most issues, not all. You infer that being a conservative is like some scarlet letter and a bad thing. I wear that “C” proudly.

  14. Alan C. Miller

I actually had an “I” branded on my left butt cheek in 1983. In most parts of the country I’d be considered pretty far left. The parakeet comment is fanciful, as I am loyal to no ideology, and in fact consider reality as dueling incompatible truths in coexistence. Stuff that in your pipe and smoke it 😐

  15. Walter Shwe

Sorry Alan. Keith is the real parakeet, not you Alan. The article Keith references pertains solely to New York City, not Sacramento. You have employed another typical Republican tactic, lying. The Davis Vanguard was absolutely correct. Your alleged proof is pathetic. šŸ™‚ šŸ˜‰

  16. Walter Shwe

Keith evidently is not creative, so he steals my lines instead of coming up with his own phrases. My phrases are not off topic. He is just a sore loser just like many Republicans. In general elections voters can literally select any candidate, irregardless of political affiliation. I bet he overwhelmingly votes for Republican candidates making my assertion that he is in reality a Republican absolutely true. It’s whom you actually vote for that counts in the final analysis. šŸ‘

  17. Keith

“You have literally zero data to back up your false assertion that illegal immigration has any significant effect on the unhoused population Keith Olson.”
“The article Keith references pertains solely to New York City, not Sacramento.”
Hey Shwe, did your above statement ask only about Sacramento?
Immigrants coming to the Sacramento area are either getting housing or are ending up homeless. So either way they are effecting the homeless problem by either being homeless themselves or taking up needed housing. That’s not hard to understand for most people with any common sense.
BTW Shwe, see how I replied to you without name calling or insulting you? Maybe you should try it instead of your usual tactics.

  18. Walter Shwe

My apologies again Alan. I confused Keith’s initial comment with your post. In the future I will endeavor to more careful.

  19. Keith

” I bet he overwhelmingly votes for Republican candidates making my assertion that he is in reality a Republican absolutely true. It’s whom you actually vote for that counts in the final analysis. šŸ‘”
Shwe, you’re a genius, you’ve outed me. Your deep analysis is amazing. Since I’ve already wrote that I’m a conservative of course I mostly vote for conservative leaning candidates which in most cases are Republican.

  20. Alan C. Miller

DEAR READER, I would much rather have a conversation about ideas than a conversation with shallow insults hurled at individuals and groups. However, Mr. Al Corner values free speech above all. Over at fuck-face blog, the playing field is tilted so much more steeply than the Riddler’s Hideout so that comments and players that don’t suite the fancy of progressive idealogues and plant salesman are tilted off the board into the abyss. Fear of ideas.
I’m sure KO can hold his own. And the players want to play, so go for it. I declare y’all ‘in the game’. Just as long as y’all don’t start publishing each other’s addresses or insulting each other’s mothers, I’ll err on the side of mooga. I am fully up for letting people sink their own ship if they wish (hint: aim the torpedo at yourself and yell ‘fire!’). I’m hoping after a few rounds we can get past the insults and discuss the issues openly without chess pieces being forcefully removed from the chess board, or flipping the Risk board when one loses Ukraine.

  21. Walter Shwe

BTW Shwe, see how I replied to you without name calling or insulting you?
Please point out where I either insulted you or name called you. Speaking the truth isn’t either.

  22. Walter Shwe

As they say, if you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

  23. Ron O

Walter: I’d view this as an example of an (ineffective) “insult” in response to Keith:
“You have employed another typical Republican tactic, lying.”

  24. Walter Shwe

When President Biden noted that ā€œsomeā€ Republicans want to cut Social Security and Medicare, congressional Republicans erupted in boos and shouts of ā€œliarā€ and ā€œbullshit.ā€
In one of the best television shots on Tuesday night, Senators Rick Scott and Mike Lee, sitting side by side, look incredulous and outraged. But both men have indeed put both programs on the chopping block. So have many others.
As Republicans continued to object to his ā€œliesā€ about them, Biden sprang a political trap. ā€œI enjoy conversion,ā€ he said. ā€œAs we all apparently agree, Social Security and Medicare is off the books [for cuts] now, right?ā€
    https://www.thenation.com/article/politics/republicans-social-security-medicare/tnamp/

  25. Ron O

Walter: I’d say that there’s a difference between claiming that some senator “lied” via the description of their reaction (as you reported), vs. claiming that a commenter like Keith “lied”.
But on a broader level, the incident that you’re describing (haven’t seen it myself) sounds an awful lot like politics on “both” sides. (Both the incident, and the reporting of it.) Enough to make my eyes glaze-over, as I don’t (as with most people, I suspect) actually care that much about personally-identifying with (or “defending”) political parties in the first place.
Perhaps you’re different, in that regard.

  26. Walter Shwe

They claim that crime is rising because Democrats have been ā€œsoftā€ on crime
Research has repeatedly shown that crime is rising faster in Republican, Trump-supporting states. The thinktank Third Way found that in 2020, per capita murder rates were 40% higher in states won by Trump than in those won by Joe Biden.
Let’s be clear: it’s been Republican policies that have made it easier for people to get and carry guns. Republicans are lying about the real cause of rising crime to protect their patrons – gun manufacturers.
They claim that inflation is due to Biden’s spending, and wage increases
The major domestic cause of the current inflation is big corporations that have been taking advantage of inflation by raising their prices higher than their increasing costs.
Be forewarned, Mr. Reich served in the Clinton Administration.

    ā€œModerator June 3, 2023 at 4:56 pm
    Hi folks,
If there is a commenter who bothers you, there’s a simple solution:
    ā€œIgnore Commenterā€
If you click on this button, their comments will never display for you again. Just be careful, since we don’t have any way to undo it that I’m aware of.
Best bet, of course, is to just make your own comments and keep the conversation on track. ā€œ
Does the ā€œignore commenterā€ button also work if one wants to ignore the moderator?

  28. Alan C. Miller

[Davis Vanguard] Moderator June 3, 2023 at 4:56 pm
    Hi folks,
If there is a commenter who bothers you, there’s a simple solution: [picture of ‘ignore commenter’ button.
If you click on this button, their comments will never display for you again. Just be careful, since we don’t have any way to undo it that I’m aware of.
Best bet, of course, is to just make your own comments and keep the conversation on track.

First of all, yes, there is a way for them to undo it. I think it took about 2 years when I tried last after accidentally clicking this button.
Second, there is another way deal with a commenter who bothers you. If you are a plant salesman and a moderator, there’s a simple solution: ban them permanently from the Davis Vanguard. I resemble that remark.
    Fear of ideas.

  29. Alan C. Miller

Ha, Keith! Jinx! As they say . . .
Comment on same comment at about the same time . . . didn’t even see you comment as I was writing mine. People who dislike @#$%&-head moderators think alike 😐

  30. Alan C. Miller

And by the way, I would guess that the “Ignore Commenter” button works for the moderator. They seem to have not control over it. My recommendation is that you and RO try it. Filter out the shit, live a peaceful life.
And if anyone complains that you aren’t complying with their orders, you won’t even know it.

  31. Walter Shwe

If you want to ignore the moderators, simply create your own site. Their site, their rules.

  32. Alan C. Miller

If you want to ignore the moderators, simply create your own site.
Or ignore the moderators. If they didn’t stomp out ideas they didn’t like and try to justify it, I’d have no problem. Which is kind of like saying if you don’t like the smell of shit, don’t shit.
    Their site, their rules.
For babies who need their diapers changed.

  33. Walter Shwe

For babies who need their diapers changed.
    Poor baby.
How would Alan like it if a bot/person spammed all of your posts dozens of times daily and you were powerless to stop it because you couldn’t moderate the comments? What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.

  34. Alan C. Miller

    Not following you, WS.

  35. Walter Shwe

I guess I need to give you “bread crumbs”. This site is moderator.

  36. Walter Shwe

    “moderated” not “moderator”

  37. Alan C. Miller

Moderated by whom? I ‘moderate’ Al’s Corner and any articles I write. But have never deleted a comment (well once one of mine after I thought better of it) from anyone. I once gave a warning but still posted the comment, so who is ‘moderating’ ? I mean, if you gave out someone’s street address I wouldn’t post that, or if you insulted their mother, but that’s never happened.
“How would Alan like it if a bot/person spammed all of your posts dozens of times daily and you were powerless to stop it because you couldn’t moderate the comments? What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.”
OK, I guess I need ‘breadcrumbs’ — or actually just exactly what you are implying here:
    • Who in this scenario is spamming ‘all of’ someone’s ‘posts dozens of times daily’ ?
    • Who and why is this person powerless to stop it?
    • Well, I guess because they can’t moderate the comments, but what is it that is happening and to who and by who?
    • Maybe because it is being ‘moderated’ I have no idea of this spamming, so perhaps that’s why I don’t know what you are referring to — but if I don’t know, why do you know?
    • Who is the goose in this scernio, and who is the gander, and why?
I’m sure you think I know all this just because you wrote something vague, but I don’t know what or who you are implying this all applies to. And if I don’t know, then I doubt our vast audience knows either.

  38. Alan C. Miller

SUBJECT: “Can Davis Solve Its Housing Needs Only Through Infill? I Don’t Think So”
    Who care what you think?
Hey everyone, hallefuckinglujah: DG wrote an article on housing in Davis today. And it’s stupid. And repetitive. And it’s stupid. And repetitive.

  39. Walter Shwe

The owners of this site wisely chose to have all comments moderated instead of having a free for all.

  40. Alan C. Miller

Well I agree with that. Because if people weren’t aware someone was monitoring the posts then they could dox people, post porn, and insult people’s mothers by name.
It’s how one uses moderation that counts. I don’t know of instances on the Davisite where someone omitted someone’s comment because they didn’t like the content. I can’t speak for certain for the others, but I certainly never have. This in stark contrast to the stick that keeps getting shoved further and further up another site’s ass. Years ago the stick was only inserted a few inches into the anal cavity, today it is rammed meters in (and has gone metric as well).
You didn’t clarify your comments to explain what you were speaking of in your 5:35pm comment.

  41. Walter Shwe

Since you basically are saying anything goes, here it comes. There is a lot more to come unless you actually begin moderating my posts.
Alan can go fuck himself 24/7 365. Ron Oertel sucks all of the time. Republicans are ass wipes. Republicans are all bigots and racists. Bad drivers suck big time. Conservatives are dumb and dumber. NIMBYs are exceedingly stupid and are all just obstructionists to progress.

  42. Alan C. Miller

I appreciate your not insulting our mothers.
You didn’t clarify your comments to explain what you were speaking of in your 5:35pm comment.
    Cows Moo.

  43. Keith

    WOW!!!
Nothing needs to be said in response to W.S.

  44. Alan C. Miller

    Dear Gentle Reader,
WS posted the same comment five more times in one minute, except changed “Alan can go fuck himself 24/7 365.” to “Alan and his parents can go fuck themselves 24/7 365.” WARNING: I will not be posting any more insults of people’s parents. And I don’t believe that not posting essentially the same comment six times constitutes deleting the five comments not posted since they are the same comment, just with the parental insult added.
    Hi Mom! Hi Dad!

  45. Keith

    WOW again.
Hey WS, are you okay? I’m worried about you. You sound a little unhinged.

  46. Alan C. Miller

Keith, are you available to do a welfare check on a duplex in West Davis?

  47. Ron O

    Perhaps if it wasn’t 365 days/year (24 hours a day), maybe it wouldn’t be so insulting (and physically impossible) . . .
But if anyone’s “parents” didn’t do this at least once in a while (with each other – not just by themselves), I guess their offspring wouldn’t be here to subsequently be told that.
Would have to agree that “Bad drivers suck big time”, though. Definitely not “small time”, either.

  48. Keith

I can’t Alan. I don’t dare drive because I’m a bad driver and they suck big time according to WS.

  49. Alan C. Miller

Bad drivers do suck big time. On that we can all agree.
And there was peace. And we all sang Kumbaya around the campfire. And someone in Davis complained about the smoke. And we all pulled out our guns and tried to shoot each other. But the new gun locks being given away by the City prevented the gunfire. And we all calmed down and sang Kumbaya. And while we were trying to shoot each other, someone snuck in with a hose and put out the campfire.
