Thank you for joining with Davis Fridays for Future End the Fossil Fuel Era march and rally.
Those that come to add their voices are joining a movement where it is up to them to make more of it than the protest they attend on Friday.
The September 15th End the Fossil Fuel Era Davis Fridays For Future March and Rally
Gather at 14th and B at 12:00 noon (in front of Veterans Memorial)
Student leaders will be organizing intake and ask that adult allies gather as well and have some fun practicing chants around the theme “End the Fossil Fuel Era”. This is a family friendly event.
At about 12:20 the youth will lead us along B street to Central Park Social Justice Stage for a short rally. Those that can't walk should meet the marchers at Central Park. The rally will likely start just before, or at, 1:00. At the rally you will hear from 3 of the Davis Fridays for Future members and perhaps one additional speaker. Speakers will be asking you to register your support with an End the Fossil Fuel Era petition (a QR code will be provided) and to participate in a group skit – demonstrating the impact of climate change.
The goals of the Davis climate action is to see and be seen in support of the Global Climate Strike to End the Fossil Fuel Era. You will be part of thousands of protests worldwide. This sends a message (bring your cell phone to conduct your personal social media campaign).
The other goal is to register your support of a petition to have Biden and Newsom place a moratorium on all new oil and gas wells and to require oil and gas companies to clean up their abandoned orphan wells and for Biden to declare a Climate Emergency to further mobilize resources and regulations to End the Fossil Fuel Era. A third goal is to look around and form your own pod of group support for further action.
The rally “program” will likely end near 1:30 after which there will be an opportunity to connect and participate while painting an End the Fossil Fuel Era mural.
(You should supply your own water, hat and sunscreen). You can also bring a sign. Many End Fossil Fuel signs will be provided as well.
In general, it is up to those attending to connect with climate action, whether by joining action groups like Fridays for Future (designed for k-12 youth) or finding ways to ally with the youth group if you are older. There are other groups for people who are college age and up: Sunrise Movement, Mom's Demand Action, the energetic Extinction Rebellion, standard bearers like Sierra Club and your own church, synagogue or mosque climate group. The recently formed Th!rd Act is also an effective way for the 60+ crowd to “pay forward” in fighting for a livable planet for young people.
The September 15th End the Fossil Fuel Era Davis Fridays For Future march and rally is what you make it. This is an inclusive peaceful public action.
Inspire yourself to get involved and ask what your City, State and Federal Government are doing and allowing private companies to do. What happens next is up to you. Who are your representatives? Are their heads in the sand or are they taking leadership in empowering the youth and actively moving society away from fossil fuels?
Equitable abundant society is a contact sport. See you there.
