Suggested talking points and subject line: SUPPORT Agenda Item #37 declaring a climate emergency
All of us in Yolo county are now on the frontlines of a rapidly destabilizing climate. Just like Yolo County has led on the COVID-19 public health emergency, we need to respond with urgent, emergency action to the climate crisis before our health, our livelihoods, and our communities suffer even greater impacts.
Science dictates we have ten years to transition off fossil fuels in order to stay below 1.5 degree global warming and avert ever more worsening impacts. I strongly support the goal of decarbonizing by 2030.
Workers and communities that have faced systemic racism and disenfranchisement must be protected from climate disasters and be directly included in the transition to a zero-emissions economy.
Please support and finance the creation of a Climate Working Group that includes direct representation from marginalized, vulnerable, and underserved communities to ensure that all Yolo County residents are included in the emergency response and just transition to a carbon neutral/climate positive Yolo County.
Please call or send personalized emails to your representative and cc the clerkoftheboard@yolocounty.org and bcc the Yolo Climate Emergency Coalition coordinating group at coalition4mobilization@gmail.com.
