(From press release)
An event honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Isao Fujimotowill will take place on Saturday January 25th, 2020, from 9:30AM to 5:30PM at the International House.
Dr. Isao Fujimoto was one of the founding faculty members of the UC Davis Asian American Studies Department. Dr. Fujimoto's life's work has been to lift up the voices of the marginalized. He has pursued this through community-engaged research on indigenous peoples in the Philippines, and farmworkers and immigrants in the California's Central Valley.
His undaunted but humble commitment to speaking truth of power along with his teaching and mentorship has inspired generations of students to pursue careers to advance social justice. Alongside his students, Dr. Fujimoto was instrumental in creating important City of Davis institutions such as the Davis Farmers Market and the Davis Co-Op.
In addition to kicking off an exhibition on Dr. Fujimoto's work, this event brings together contemporary Asian American activists working on issues at the core of Dr. Fujimoto's work and showcases the current community-engaged commitments of Asian American Studies faculty.
