Is the Vanguard systematically deleting links to the Davisite — and only the Davisite?

Why
It seems that the Vanguard is systematically deleting links to the Davisite — and only the Davisite.  The following screenshots show three examples of this, with the original versions, as posted by the author with links to the Davisite, and then later versions without links to the Davisite, apparently removed by the blog owner or one of the blog moderators.  Yet links to other sites like Facebook remain.

    We are not Coke. We are not Pepsi. We are not a commercial site of any kind, and we are not in competition with anyone. We are a site by and for Davisites, where discussion can take place without fear of personal attack. And where links to other (legal) sites are allowed.

    While I can’t speak for the Vanguard, I can speak as a Technology professional. Your site is unsecured (i.e. there is no clear ssl certification – in other words, the site address begins with “http://” and not “https://”) and linking to it on their site opens them up to potential security issues. It’s entirely possible that their site is automatically removing insecure content without a human even getting involved. I suspect that if you secure your site, the links wouldn’t disappear. It’s best to first question what may be actually happening before floating unsubstantiated conspiracy theories about folks that you don’t seem to like very much. If you do some due diligence here, it shouldn’t be an issue.

    That’s an interesting hypothesis, Ross, but David Greenwald, the Vanguard’s site owner, has said explicitly that the links were removed because he sees us as competition. The screenshot is the link that I give in the comment right above yours, or, you could go to the Vanguard’s post, which I like to at the bottom my post above. Here is the text to save you the trouble:

    References are allowed on the Vanguard, if there’s an appropriate text reference included. Commenters do this on a routine basis.
    Please put the link back. It reflects poorly on the Vanguard, to delete it.

    Well, that’s what I was thinking. No other links with text have been deleted, in my experience. But, at least my comment noting the deletion is apparently being allowed to remain.
    Seems like there might be room for more than one politically-oriented publication.

    There’s room for more than one soft drink company, but I’m not expecting links to the Pepsi site to remain on a Coca Cola site.

    Fair enough. That was unclear from the content of the post itself. My oversight. Thanks for clarifying. I’d still recommend securing your site.
