Trump Troops Part of Bigger Authoritarian Push

The last time National Guard members were deployed over the objection of a Governor was 1965 when Lyndon Johnson invoked the Insurrection Act to protect Civil Rights marchers in Alabama. This came after a deputized mob of segregationists attacked and beat marchers at the Edmund Pettus Bridge. These marchers were demanding that black Alabamans be allowed to vote.

Make no mistake, Trump's deployment of National Guard soldiers and Marines is in fact directly related. Today the Federal government is acting to intimidate and exclude minorities from the US. This deployment is racially motivated. The brutal force of the federal government is now working for oppression of minorities.

Yesterday Trump vowed that "we are going to have troops everywhere." What is happening in LA right now is coming to all major cities in the US if the Trump administration get's their way. This is not Trump alone – this is right out of the project 2025 plan and is being pushed by the authors, enablers and orchestrators of the new MAGA policies. Trump is only the figure head. We must work together to oppose all of them.

Keep in mind – the republicans can not win at the midterm elections without extreme actions. Republicans are now unpopular in most of the country. The push of the administration is wildly unpopular. the "big beautiful bill is facing fierce public opposition. DOGE is being shown to BE the fraud and a massive grift of national data. not even Marjorie Taylor green wants the Palantir surveillance state. This is not what people voted for and the Republicans are going to loose seats.

Some will think this a leap, but consider how well planned project 2025s implementation was and how quickly many of the goals have been achieved. What we are seeing in LA is one of the first steps to disrupting the next election and cementing the implementation of an authoritarian state.

We must organize and do everything to stop this hostile take over of the US.

    If you’re going to make a comment like that, you should include some evidence. Also not sure if you’re primarily referring to those entering the country illegally, but Trump’s increased support among Hispanics and other minority groups contributed to his second presidency.
    (My comment is an observation; not a political argument.)

    Colin: I merely suggested that your claims should be backed up in your own article, especially a claim as incendiary as the one you made.
    But as I suspected, you (and apparently the state senator you’re quoting) are conflating racism with illegal immigration. There is no evidence that they’re related. And again, Trump has made inroads regarding minority groups (including Hispanics, who apparently aren’t concerned about racial implications regarding illegal immigration).
    I strongly suspect that if a bunch of white Europeans were pouring over the border in an uncontrolled, illegal manner, the reaction would be much the same.
    I personally know someone who is not white, became a citizen (legally), and supports Trump. That person’s home country (sort of a “second world” country) also prevents illegal immigration (more-effectively than the U.S. does). I don’t believe there are any countries, anywhere – which permits illegal immigration to occur as extensively as the U.S. did.

    Marc, what you posted is hearsay and not evidence. Posting clips from Republicans who supported the attempted coupe making false claims about January 6 is pretty pathetic. First and foremost records show Pelosi approved requests for the national guard. Second, no matter what Pelosi did or did not do, it was Trump’s responsibility to activate the guard and he did not do it.

    I am not going to waste my time explaining racism to anyone who has repeatedly demonstrated a desire or self awareness to understand it. Frankly, it’s not my job or my burden. There are lots of resources that people can look to for help if they want to come to better understandings.

    I think the biggest question we have here has to do with the combination of “mattresses” and “awnings” at a single small company (in regard to the older photo accompanying this article).
    Is there some manufacturing connection that I’m not aware of?
    Is this the same concept behind the ACME corporation, in regard to Wile E. Coyote’s mail-order deliveries? (The company that made everything from freezers that he strapped to his back, to rocket-powered roller skates?)

    Darn tootin’ !
    When we went to south-central Texas for the eclipse last year, our big group of mostly white-appearing-ish, mostly left-leaning Davisites and northern Californians, we all went to this off-the-grid Mexican food restaurant run by three wonderful Hispanic women, and the place was festooned with American flags and Trump posters . . . also a “Hidin’ from Biden – Cash only!” sign. No one in the group had an issue with their politics that I saw, except perhaps were amused. That year there was a huge blue to red flip in many of the southern Texas border counties, driven largely by Hispanic voters.

    I think someone could quibble with some of the fine points of Colin’s article, but portrays the big picture correctly. Given the tumult that has occurred in this country since January, I think it would be irrational to not be concerned. I’m concerned enough that as a naturalized citizen (born in Canada, became a USA citizen when I was 12), I would not even remotely think of leaving this country during the next 3-1/2 years, for fear that I would not be allowed to return. I was sort of thinking of backpacking in the Dolomites, but will be happy to continue exploring the Sierras for years to come.
    I also have empathy with immigrants. Even though my father was Anglo, he was the target of job discrimination in the late 1950s and early 1960s, until he became a naturalized citizen.

    Alan M: Yes, it’s pretty inconvenient when the group(s) that some are advocating for don’t always agree with the advocacy.
    The only explanation, of course, is that they must be racist, as well. Either that, or no one can actually speak for any group – including their “own”.
    For the most part, it seems that the individuals who are most concerned with racism are the same as those who state that they’ve never experienced racism. In other words, those who state that they have no “lived experience” with racism, but are more than happy to engage in “race-splaining” the concept to others (whom they also believe have no lived experience or observational skills).
    (Usually arriving at the latter conclusion based upon the skin color of those to whom they’re race-splaining the concept).
    I think there may be a word for making assumptions about others based upon skin color, but I can’t think of it at the moment.

    More than a “leap”, it’s a paranoia long jump.
    Images of rioters throwing stones and concrete at cops and burning cars and American flags while holding Mexican flags is pure gold for the GOP.
    Then you have Newsom and Karen Bass appeasing the rioters. The GOP couldn’t ask for a better advertising to use come next election.

    Since you’re cherrypicking polls here’s a few I found:
    “A YouGov/CBS News poll conducted June 4-6 found 54 percent of Americans support Trump’s deportation program targeting undocumented immigrants, surpassing his ratings on the economy (42 percent) and inflation (39 percent). Additionally, 51 percent approve of ICE conducting searches.”
    “An RMG Research poll echoed that result, with 58 percent backing the deportation efforts. And in an Insider Advantage survey, 59 percent approved of Trump’s decision to send National Guard troops to Los Angeles in response to the protests.”
    As far as looking at news, if you’re only looking at left wing news what Colin is saying seems like reality.

    P.S. It is also always “just” 99.9% of scientists that say we are doomed if we don’t ban regular light bulbs, gas lawn mowers and gas stoves…
