Letter in support of Andrew Engdahl

This is a shout out to all of the progressive voters in the 4th Congressional District which includes most of Yolo County (West Sac is excluded).

If you are outraged by the incomprehensible, unjustifiable and egregious military response that Israel has taken toward Palestinians in Gaza and beyond, please cast your vote for Democrat ANDREW ENGDAHL for our representative in Congress. He is challenging the incumbent, Mike Thompson, who has NOT been listening to his constituents. 

Despite what the world community now sees as a genocide meant to ethnically cleanse Palestinians from Gaza, Congressman Thompson continues to vote to give Israel billions of our tax dollars in military aid, no questions asked.   Rep. Thompson seems satisfied with the status quo not just in his blind support for Israel, but also with regard to other progressive platforms like universal health care, criminal justice reform and climate action.

We need to elect a congressperson who aligns with our values on the issues that matter most to the future of our county, country and the world.  Please join me and other Democrats who have met with ANDREW ENGDAHL personally and are moved by his dedication, intellect and platform.  At the very least, if he gets enough votes to make the general election (the top two go forward) this will press the incumbent to take the progressive agenda more seriously and maybe even debate his challenger on these most important matters.

    Joannie Siegler,
    I have a question for you: what do you believe Israel should have done in response to the October 7th attack and the current holding of Israeli citizens as hostages?
    This is not a trick question. I truly wish to understand what those who hold believe in a ‘cease fire’ believe would be an appropriate response. What I usually hear is that the response should have been ‘proportionate’. I would like to have a discussion, not trying to trap you – I want to hear what you have to say and have some back and forth.

    Alan, on October 8th or so… the Israeli government should have started a process to:
    Release all the Palestinians in administrative detention, release all Palestinian prisoners not involved in violent crime, bring those Palestinians who masterminded or led attacks to court for war crimes, agree to allow Israelis suspected of war crimes the same treatment, remove Settlers from the West Bank who don’t want to live as Palestinians, call for early elections in Israel, bring in the United Nations to set up a buffer zone around Gaza, allowed Palestinian use of its airports and ports in Gaza, destroy its ballistic weaponry in the same proportion as Hamas and non-government actors operating in Gaza, return all made-in-USA-or-Europe etc bombs to the place of manufacturer or destroy them, return all US funding for the Israeli military that’s not in the form of weapons, get Hamas to agree to new, internationally-supervised elections in the near future after all these measures have in large part removed the desire for people to keep them in power, start a process for the Palestinian Right of Return and/or financial reperations, start a process for a sustainable territorial form (two-state, bi-national state, etc.), invite an international body to re-work as necessary school texts and materials up until around high school age in both Gaza, the West Bank and Israel, create a robust, high capacity public transportation and cycling network in Gaza, bring water quality and treatment at least to the level of what’s in Israel… ALL of this part of a comprehensive peace package, in whatever sequence is judged by an international body to be most sustainable.
