End of Year Gag Gifts

I tried to give the Davis Vanguard 1¢, like a tip for bad service — in this case bad writing, bad logic and bad ideas.  But the minimum donation was $1.  Hell if I'm giving the Vanguard a whole dollar.  They will use it for something I don't believe in.

Also on the way to the Vanguard office, a box of gifts including a nose-hair trimmer, a bathroom scale, a 3-pack of cheap white underwear, a bright-red MAGA-hat, a small bottle of Pine-Sol, and a hand-crank jack-in-the-box kids toy that plays "Pop Goes the Weasel".

Happy New Year to all the people of Davis who think the Davis Vanguard is a piece of crap!

    I sincerely doubt that the Vanguard’s coverage regarding a DA race in Alameda county made any difference in the outcome.
    And if the new DA herself believes this, that already indicates a problem with HER grasp on reality.
    If the Vanguard is going to “take credit” for that outcome, maybe they should also take credit in regard to the result for Boudin.
    The Vanguard can’t even get rid of the DA in Yolo county, try as they might.

    From DVG:
    One success story . . . was Pamela Price in Alameda County . . . she credited the reporting of the Vanguard . . . with helping her connect with her voters . . .
    “During my campaign for Alameda County District Attorney there were not many media outlets that covered the detailed nuances of the race like Vanguard Media did. In fact, David and the Vanguard covered key endorsements and events and pivotal debates and discussions . . . Vanguard media kept the DA’s race front and center in the voters’ minds. Their dedication to highlighting progressive change in criminal justice was a definitive element in the success of the campaign.”

    I wonder if the Vanguard wrote that and said to her, ‘can you sign off on this so we have something for our end-of-year money-raising campaign? Otherwise, we got nothing’
    Just wondering . . . Just wondering

    Ha, maybe I’m wrong but I highly doubt there are that many voters in Alameda County who are reading the Vanguard and were swayed by its coverage.

    Alan, can I add this to your box of gifts? (Since David often tells others they need to read his chosen books)

    K.O., I already had a copy stuffed inside the bright-red MAGA hat.

    KO: “Ha, maybe I’m wrong but I highly doubt there are that many voters in Alameda County who are reading the Vanguard and were swayed by its coverage.”
    Well, considering the Vanguard in those Davis news source surveys scored at the bottom (I don’t remember the number, but ‘shit’ would be a good descriptor) in Yolo County, I can’t imagine the level it would score in Alameda County. The name recognition level itself may not even ping on a survey to the level it would be mentioned in a summary.
    But despite that “Vanguard media” (whatever the hell that is, with a small ‘m’ ? ) “kept the DA’s race front and center in the voters’ minds” and “was a definitive element in the success of the campaign.”
    Anyone care to connect the dots and convince us with logic rather than bullshit ??? 😐

    As Ron pointed out, the Vanguard media (cough, cough) wasn’t able to save Boudin or get Reisig ousted on its home turf. Did that get mentioned?

    Copying my post here for end of year donations to many worthy local charities via the fund in the article below in case the posters of that article don’t upload it quickly . . . and an associated dig at ‘Vanguard media’. Whatever that is:
    I went back to this article [below] to consider giving to the fund as part of my end-of-year donations, and there is only a street address given. This is 2022 people!!! People give ON LINE. And I do encourage giving to these worthy local charities.
    So I went to the site and can help walk you through if you’d like to give on-line:
    https://www.bethaverim.org/donate/
    • Fill out the initial information in the “Donation Form”
    • Click the third check-box below in the form, “Donations to specialized Funds”
    • When you click on this, new boxes will appear below.
    • The very first box is the “Biberstein Social Action Fund”
    • Fill in this box with your donation amount
    • You have the option to fill out the next box if you wish to honor someone
    • Scroll down to the last box if you wish to add processing fee donation (voluntary)
    • Click on the CAPTCHA to prove you are not a robot – you may have to do a quick mind puzzle such as the clicking on boxes with bicycles in them.
    • Scroll to the bottom and click the orange “SUBMIT” button.
    For me, it took me to a PayPal page, even though I intended to pay with a credit card. So I paid with PayPal. I recommend getting to this point and seeing what happens and works for you.
    I gave $200 #not-so-humble-brag#. Be better than Alan C. Miller — give more than me! But seriously, give $20, $50, $100 . . . whatever works for you. But give. What are you waiting for ? Give Now!
    As an alternative, you can give to the Davis Vanguard. I won’t be giving the link, but you can find it yourself if you wish to pay David Greenwald’s salary, along with the salaries of his student interns and volunteers — oh, yeah interns and volunteers #tap,tap# — so if you wish to pay David Greenwald’s salary. As of 11:00 a.m., they are at $580 out of a goal of $26,730 (a weirdly specific goal) or 2% of goal. Pathetic, by any other name.
    Or, you can give to the “Biberstein Social Action Fund” which supports:
    • The Bike Campaign;
    • Celebration of Abraham;
    • Davis United Methodist Church – Grace Gardens;
    • HEART of Davis (formerly Interfaith Rotating Winter Shelter) ;
    • iDream – The Mac Give Back Project;
    • Meals on Wheels Yolo County;
    • Mercer Veterinary Clinic;
    • Personal Care Pantry (Woodland United Methodist Church);
    • Purple Tree Café;
    • STEAC;
    • St. James Conference Society of Vincent de Paul;
    • Suicide Prevention of Yolo County;
    • Yolo County Continuum of Care;
    • Yolo Crisis Nursery
    So donate to the above worthy charities this New Years Eve!
    . . . or to David Greenwald’s salary and the associated dying movements of electing progressive DAs, social justice warriordom, and densification via the oppressive California state government quashing local city planning.
    Your choice.
