Whole Earth Festival – This Weekend! ••• Earth to the People •••

Program CoverRing, Ring! The planet’s calling, and we must pick up. Inspired by the saying “Earth to (insert name),” Earth to the People is a wake-up call, a reminder that action must be taken now, not later. Our staff chose this theme to emphasize that the time for passive awareness has passed. Climate change, ecological destruction, genocide, and the onoging seizure and destruction of indigenous lands by settler-colonial powers are not distant problems; they are happening now, bringing harm to the Earth and its inhabitants. We are being called not just to care, but to act – to mobilize our communities, challenge systems of harm, and create tangible change towards a more just, equitable, and peaceful world. Our theme’s accompanying artwork brings this urgency to life, urging all people to wake up and step up for the world we love. Let’s answer the call together – with passion and with action.

Anyone want to meet at the “Party for Socialism and Liberation” booth?

I’ll meet you there after I give you a half-hour to cool down from your pole dancing lesson at Experiential Space, Keith.

Easter Egg: Scroll down to Page 11 and take a quick read on “A Fun Read Before You Go….”. I discovered this easter egg after I published this article on WEF — it’s a ‘transcription’ of a random conversation I had with the WEF Directors about a month ago. Goes to show how much fun this year’s staff is!
    See y’all on the Quad!

Okay Alan, I’ll be the guy wearing the pink “Tax the Rich” t-shirt.

From article: ” . . . and the onoging seizure and destruction of indigenous lands by settler-colonial powers are not distant problems; they are happening now, bringing harm to the Earth and its inhabitants.”
The exact opposite is occurring. That is, environmental groups and state agencies are privatizing vast amounts of lands on behalf of tribes. And these tribes are not subject to the same environmental or other restrictions as every other citizen/entity of the U.S.
Tribes engage in extractive industries (such as logging), as well.
Sometimes land is privatized on behalf of politically-connected casino owning tribes (as is the case for several hundred acres along the Marin coast, which I believe includes a ranch house).
These are lands that would “normally” be transferred to the public, and public funds are often used to accomplish this privatization.
And let’s also not forget the millions of acres already reserved for tribes, an entire federal agency dedicated exclusively to their well-being, government benefits reserved exclusively for them, etc.
By the way, tribal members are Americans, themselves.
There was a time when environmental groups and state agencies preserved land for EVERYONE, but that time is often in the rear-view mirror, these days.
It’s really unfortunate that some are fooled into thinking that tribes are anything but a private “club”, based upon birthright. (And not just “any” native birthright – you have to have the “right” one, and the correct “percentage”.)
If you really want to see something unsavory (and decidedly unfriendly toward both the environment and each other), take a look at how tribes fight each other over their casino monopoly. (It’s occurring right now, in Sonoma county.)

You can argue that since Russian Socialists like Stalin killed so many people they were “green leaders” reducing the number of people and polution and making Russia “greener”.
