Happiness is the last leg of a trip home with art supplies for making whatever it is I am passionate about making at any given time. A fresh start. A new beginning. Right on time to create. Anytime. How about now? Design. Take those ideas and dreams that you imagine for the future and just try it now instead. Is it clay making? Painting? Cooking? Drawing? Writing? Knitting? Whatever it may be. Do it! It’s so much fun! Once you start doing it and have the right supplies, the right mindset will follow. Be open to possibility and passion. Use that imagination that might have gotten hidden. It’s in there somewhere, I assure you. Once hands begin making, so too does the mind start to create.
Today it was three bags full of fluffy beautiful wool roving. Some were colorful, others were natural. New colors and pure creamy off-white to use as a canvas to add color to. Now I am officially ready to teach my first felting classes at the Davis Arts Center, starting next Monday. It will be a five day, mini-camp workshop. The class is suitable for children ages five and up. Each student will learn starting from wherever they are. Practice. Exploration of new content. The mind and hands will delight in sensation.

Right now is a wonderful and perfect time to invite our attention to dance with creativity and bring new things into being. Sometimes new things and new ways of being are uncomfortable at first. With a little time, the new behavior becomes comfortable. Creation. Manifesting. Making the unfamiliar familiar. Your mind will twirl in delight at the chance to play. We human creatures love making marks in society, whether it be in the area of artistic expression or other venues We love to be busy! Making! Bringing gifts into the world for eyes to delight in and bask in the newness of unknown terrain.
Imagination swimming in the depth of time. Children splash with great ease at the helm of imaginative play and creativity. Somehow as adults we shirk away from the very tool that is innately our gift and offering to the world. Children freely sway like a branch in strong wind when the breezes of ideas and sparks of inventiveness come calling. Adults however, are far more full of fear and trepidation when it comes to exploring the unknown. We each have that beautiful ripe and fruitful imagination, ready to be plucked anytime. Like a plant longs and benefits from good harvest and pruning, so too does the imagination. Once the muscle is stretched, it rises to the occasion and revel in the land of endless new possibility.
Come join us at this week and next at the Davis Arts Center. Felting workshop camps are open to children age five and up, and that most definitely includes adults. I love multi-age creativity and I’m passionate about making space for intergenerational groups to share perspectives and creativity. It will be ever so much fun!
